As an experienced pediatric pulmonologist, Dr. Light specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic lung disease of infants, children, and adolescents as well as sleep disorders.
His present position is with the Children’s Lung, Asthma and Sleep Specialists in West Palm Beach, Florida. Prior to this he was chief of pediatric pulmonology at the University of Florida, Gainesville.
On the subject of his academic career, he earned his medical degree from Guy’s Hospital Medical School at the University of London in 1967. He then went on to complete the equivalent of a fellowship in pediatric pulmonary and critical care at the Brompton Chest Hospital in London.
In 1973 he moved to Hawaii and in the 70’s he directed the neonatal intensive care unit, and in the 80’s the pediatric intensive care unit. In 1989 he joined the University of California, San Diego and was chief of pediatric pulmonology until 2000 when he relocated to the University of Miami. He spent 8 years in pediatric pulmonology and 3 years in adult pulmonology. His most recent academic position was with the University of Florida, Gainesville and he was chief of pediatric pulmonology.
He is a former chair of the American Academy Section of Pediatric Pulmonology and the editor in chief of the first edition of the AAP Handbook of Pediatric Pulmonology.
